The inspiration for the Travel Quote of the Day began years before the arrival of the Internet. I have always collected travel quotes since receiving a small book of travel quotes as a graduation gift from college.
My employees and colleagues know that I always had that small book of travel quotes on my desk so they could peruse it while waiting for me to finish up phone calls. For some reason, most always chose the book instead of my authentic (drilled) Vietnam War-era hand grenade paper weight. One could easily tell the risk takers, they would grab the grenade. If they started playing with the pin while asking if the thing was real, I normally jotted down a quick little note to myself…
Fortunately, from the worlds of literature and music, there have been countless references to all forms of travel, so my list was never meant to be exhaustive, just inspiring. Since my college graduation, I have casually made a note of every interesting quote I have come across.
I promised myself that once I had more than a year’s supply of quotes, I would organize them and post them online. I find that others post quotes periodically, or perhaps keep them hidden so only one can be seen per day. I want none of that. My plan is to post them all, so they may be easily searched by author. Eventually, I will be soliciting the online community’s assistance in coming up with new quotes to extend the period before the quotes need to be recycled.
On Saturdays, the quote will normally be music related, typically with an accompanying video.
My favorite quote? I found it in 1976 when asked for my “Climb the mountains, relax and take a long look from the top.” That’s been my philosophy for both travel and business over the ensuing decades.
I hope you enjoy the quotes and will help by contributing ones that you have discovered over the years that you fine exceptionally insightful.
