What is RockCheetah?

RockCheetah is the name of my hotel marketing strategy and travel technology consulting company. RockCheetah assists global hospitality and travel organizations create business processes to execute successful marketing strategies. RockCheetah’s clients learn how to maximize brand equity and create value through relevant customer engagement by implementing appropriate technologies and operational best practices. RockCheetah not only encompasses my consulting practice, but it also serves as the incubation platform for several other creative and business pursuits.

Most people ask me how I selected RockCheetah as the name. It was easy.

The name originated at an alpine ski race in the early 1970’s. To win at slalom, one required rock solid technique to complete the course faster than the competition. This was managed, on occasion through lightning quick reaction to unanticipated obstacles, but mostly by looking ahead and anticipating decisions well in advance of initiating any definitive action. Rock Solid Technique combined with Cheetah Fast Execution was required to win. That day, I smoked the course; I ran it like a RockCheetah.

The decision to apply the RockCheetah analogy to marketing strategy and travel technology consulting made perfect sense – every client I have ever worked with has sought solid strategic advice, combined with actionable to execute those strategies quickly. Solid Strategy – Fast Execution is RockCheetah’s credo.

There was also a little known and more subtle reason for selecting RockCheetah as a name:

In the early 1990’s, the visionary advertising agency Chiat/Day produced a document titled “mastering the new five P’s of marketing” that resonated with me. The first “P” was Paradox. The thesis was the business world was built on paradox – mastering short-term objectives without diminishing long-term results; thinking globally while acting locally; branding commodity products. The conflict initiated by paradox created opportunity by creating new categories. By contrasting the strength and enduring nature of Rock with the speed & agility of the Cheetah, the RockCheetah name reminds me to always embrace paradox, break the rules and seek new categories to lead.
